General Conference!

Easter! General Conference! Because He Lives!

A lot of great things are happening this week! I cant believe it has been 6 months since last Conference but I'm super excited. It is going to be a great Easter Weekend!

Because He Lives! Share it!

We are teaching a couple Celeste and Jeobanni! They are really awesome! Celeste's son is serving a mission right now in Puerto Rico but she isn't a member. It's fun to teach her because she emails her son every week and really has a true desire to know. Her son left on his mission the exact same day as both Elder Pace and I... coincidence? I think not!! Jeobanni is a really nice guy as well and is open to learning more. We had a soccer game last saturday. It was Sweetwater Branch vs. Cunningham Branch (my old branch). Jeobanni came and played with us. It was fun and Celeste was pretty excited that he was getting involved.

The more I experiance and see the more my testimony grows of the gospel! It is true!

This sunday was our branch conference. The Stake Presidency came down and they talked a lot about Family History! It was really cool. It made me want to do my family history. Unfortunately as spanish missionaries we aren't given time to work on that. Something that really hit me is they talked about how when we learn more about our ancestors we are learning more about ourselves because we have parts of everyone of them inside of us. So, I've started the little book, "My Family." I'm sure most of y'all have heard of it. I hope to be able to do more with family history someday.

A lot of times as a missionary I feel like I start to get caught up in everything. I think that happens to all of us. There is always something new to learn, people to call, appointments to set up, lessons to teach, ect. ect. ect. I just want to be able to do everything. But the other day I was talking to one of the young women. She has been trying to befriend another young women that hasn't been coming to church. As we talked she changed the subject and began to talk about different young women. She told me how she always posts and talks about how she doesn't want to live anymore and some other things like that. My heart felt heavy and I wanted to go and see her. I wanted to tell her how much God really loves her and let her know that she is a daughter of God! I thought of all the times I had taught there family and how oblivious I had been to how she really felt. Nobody should ever feel that way, and that is why it is so important to share the gospel. Not just because, but because we need to let others understand that God is really there! He really does love us! The only way to truely be happy is through living and obeying the commandments of God. I hope that we can all find joy in our lives and comfort in the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you are feeling depressed, sad, or discouraged, don't turn away from God, but turn to him.

Light at the feet of Jesus.

In spanish, Luz means light :)
Earlier this week we were driving to a trailer park to go and knock some doors. On the way we passed by a big statue of Christ that was in the middle of a field. It looked kind of the one that is in Salt Lake, but it was Catholic. I wanted to go and take a picture but we had already passed it. We flipped a coin to see if we should go take a picture and we got tails instead of heads. So we just kept going. A couple hours later on our way back we saw the statue again but this time there was somebody siting at the feet of Christ. She looked Hispanic so we parked the car, finished a phone call, and went out to talk to her. By this time she was walking towards us and Elder Pace called out, "how are you doing?" She stuttered a little, "I no speak english." I quickly started talking to her in spanish and her face lit up. She got so excited! Her name is Luz. I had assumed that she was Catholic but as we talked with her we found out that she didn't have a church because she hadn't found any that she liked. Elder Pace gave her a Libro de Mormon, we got her number, and met with her two days later. She came to church this sunday and loved it. After sacrament meeting one of the members ran up to Luz, gave her a hug, and told her how excited she was to see her. She asked, "how did you meet the missionaries?" They already knew each other!

Everybody needs the gospel in their lives and a lot of people are looking for it. A lot of them are our friends and neighbors, we just don't have the courage to invite them to church. While on a mission I have really been able to see the blessings that come from the gospel and I want to share those with everyone. But don't just wait until God puts your friends in the path of the missionaries, invite them yourself!

Have a good week!

Bautismo...Boda!

Last Saturday was the Baptism of Dimas Lopez. He is the cousin of Stiven who we baptized in Dec. It has been really fun to teach him! I love to teach kids. They are so receptive to the spirit and willing to obey the commandments of God. For some reason the older people get the smarter they think they are and the less they feel they need to obey. But I had a lot of fun teaching Dimas and coming of with fun creative ways to teach him. He asked me to baptise him and his grandpa to confirm him. His baptism was a very special and spiritual experience for both of us.

Last night we were able to see Fausta. I don't know if I have talked about her before, but she has been an investigator and ready to be baptized for over a year. The reason she hasn't been baptized is because she isn't married but she is living with someone, Pedro. Well, they just had a baby girl in December. Pedro has always been a really nice guy, but he has never wanted anything to do with the missionaries. Last night we talked to both of them together and that was the first time I had seen him sit still and listen through an entire lesson! Towards the end of the lesson we started to talk specifically about marriage and asked them if that was something they wanted to do. They told us that they had already went and gotten they're license and invited us to there wedding which they told us was already planned for this Saturday!!! I was so excited!! After the lesson I was just talking to Pedro and he told me that Bethany (the baby) was his first child and that it was really special. It amazed me how so many missionaries prayed and fasted and taught and tried their best to soften this mans heart and despite all their efforts they couldn't reach him. But, a little baby sent directly from heaven was able to touch his heart so gently. The power of a little Child!

Mosiah 3:19
For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.

May we all humble ourselves and become as little children and submit ourselves to the will of the Father.

Elder Pace!

Elder Pace is my companion, again! He was my companion in the MTC in Mexico. I didn't think we would ever serve together again, especially so soon, but a couple months later and were back together. He's a really good missionary and I've already learned a lot from him this week. I remember he had a really hard time speaking spanish in the MTC, and it's pretty cool to be able to talk to him in spanish now. All of the members were so sad to see Elder Taufa leave, but they are all going to love Elder Pace as well.

I know that the Lord qualifys us for the work. To keep his commandmants and do whats right isn't always easy. The first couple days after the transfer and with Elder Pace I was super stressed out. Elder Pace was doing things different then Elder Taufa and he didn't know anyone or what they needed. We didn't have very many miles left (we walked a lot this week) and I felt like I was failing this area and the people here. I think we all have moments like that where we just want to give up, punch something, or go for a long run by yourself. We'll what I did was I prayed. I prayed hard, and when I got up off my knees I didn't stop praying. I prayed that I would be able to love my companion, to love the people, to speak this langauge and do everything that I needed to do. And, the circumstances really didn't change. We still didn't have miles and Elder Pace is still the same :) but I changed. I stopped seeing all the negative things and I started to see all the positive. I stopped worrying about this or that, and I started to make the best out of my situation. Right now I'm happy. Probably the happiest I've been my whole mission. I know that God lives and that he answers prayers.
